International Workshop on On-Orbit Satellite Servicing
NASA is conducting a study to assess the feasibility, practicality and cost of servicing satellites using elements of currently planned and future NASA human spaceflight systems and/or robotic technologies. To this end, NASA issued a Request for Information (RFI) to improve its understanding of how these elements can be used effectively to service a wide range of existing and potential future missions. RFI responses were due January 15, 2010. In conjunction with the RFI, the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is hosting an open international workshop to bring potential users and providers of on-orbit servicing capabilities together with the NASA GSFC Study Team. The NASA GSFC Study Team will present the notional mission definition process and the first draft of the notional mission suite for satellite servicing. Participants and RFI responders will have an opportunity to present ideas, technologies and capabilities relevant to satellite servicing,as well as forecast existing and planned spacecraft/observatories that would benefit from on-orbit serviceability. Addresses by keynote speakers as well as break-out sessions will facilitate the sharing of perspectives and solutions across various sectors. The workshop is FREE and available for both in-person and electronic attendance. Registration is required. Join us by registering at: http://servicingstudy.gsfc.nasa.gov/ See website for additional details. Date: March 24-26 Location: 3501 University Boulevard East, Adelphi, Maryland, US Web Site Address: http://servicingstudy.gsfc.nasa.gov/ Contact Email Address: < aalessan@hst.nasa.gov > |
